José Carlos Ugaz, newly-elected Chair of Transparency International, will speak on "An End to Impunity for Grand Corruption" at TI-UK's annual Anti-Corruption Lecture on 20 November.

“We must address the way the corrupt are getting away with it unmasking them, drawing attention to corrupt schemes such as the abuse of offshore companies, impeding their enjoyment of ill-gotten gains travelling freely and leading a life of luxury while the poor have to pay their bills."

                                                              – José Ugaz Chair, Transparency International

José Ugaz, leading anti-corruption lawyer and newly-elected Chair of the Transparency International movement, will speak on “An End to Impunity for Grand Corruption” at TI-UK’s annual lecture on 20 November 2014.

During his time as ad hoc attorney general in Peru Ugaz prosecuted hundreds of corrupt officials and recovered millions of stolen assets. He is best known for his instrumental role in the corruption case against Peru's former President Alberto Fujimori who is currently serving a 25-year prison sentence. In 2002 Ugaz assumed presidency of Proética Transparency International’s chapter in Peru.

Ugaz has now become chair of a movement set to increase its global voice against corruption, beginning with a campaign to Unmask the Corrupt. We at TI-UK are part of this call understanding that for too long Britain has been acting as a safe haven for the world’s corrupt funds.

This is a free event. Please register on Eventbrite at the bottom of this page or by contacting TI-UK Events. The evening will include an interactive exhibition, talk by José Ugaz, and drinks reception.
