19th December 2017, London – Responding to news that breach of confidence proceedings have been launched against media partners involved in the Paradise Papers, Robert Barrington, Executive Director Transparency International UK, said:

“The Paradise Papers gave an unparalleled insight into corruption, tax evasion, aggressive tax avoidance and unethical behaviour taking place around the world and facilitated by professional service providers.  In Transparency International's experience, investigative journalism of this type is critical in detecting and deterring corruption.  The extent of wrongdoing and unethical behaviours exposed by The Guardian, The BBC and the other global media partners of the ICIJ demonstrate the clear public interest in publishing material from the Paradise Papers.”
