April 11, 2016 - Commenting on the Prime Ministers commitment to "seek consensus" on overseas territories making company ownership public, Robert Barrington, Transparency International UK Executive Director said:
"We welcome the Prime Minister’s commitment to gain consensus with the Overseas Territories on public registers of company ownership. However, if consensus cannot be reached then stronger action, including any necessary legal measures, must be taken to ensure the Overseas Territories are fully disclosing who owns companies that are registered in their jurisdictions. The coming International Anti-Corruption Summit on 12th May is the perfect moment for the Prime Minister to take the necessary actions that match the positive rhetoric."
