This report addresses the ongoing problem of corrupt wealth being laundered through the UK, finding that the current AML (Anti-Money Laundering) regime is not fit for purpose.

Transparency International UK’s Corporate Political Engagement Index assesses the public reporting practices of the 40 largest companies in the FTSE 100 Index in relation to their political engagement. 

Radical overhaul of the UK’s anti-money laundering system is needed, if the UK is to close the door to the billions of pounds in corrupt money coming into the country every year, according to a new report by Transparency International UK (TI-UK).

This policy paper provides a summary of our research into how open data can be used to tackle corruption. This research involved analysing 95 case studies of corrupt behaviour and identifying the primary method of finding this information.

We found that whilst open data has not historically been used to identify incidents of corruption in the UK it can be used to deter and detect corrupt acts, and should be an integral part of the UK’s anti-corruption toolkit.
