The Board of Transparency International UK has announced that, after a rigorous external search and selection process, it has appointed Dr Robert Barrington to be the new Executive Director. He was previously the charity’s Director of External Affairs.

His background in both resources-resources-business and the voluntary sector is an excellent fit for Transparency International's work. He will take forward the excellent work already accomplished by TI, and help fulfil the charity’s vision of a world in which corruption is greatly reduced and the UK has zero tolerance for corruption both at home and abroad."

Robert Barrington said "The challenge of corruption is very considerable; but the environment for tackling it is better than ever before with widespread public, political, media and resources-resources-business support. This gives TI-UK an outstanding opportunity to build on its distinguished record of research and advocacy. I am greatly looking forward to playing a part in the global fight against corruption."

Robert Barrington joined Transparency International UK in 2008 as Director of External Affairs. His responsibilities have included TI-UK's work on the Bribery Act, engaging the private sector, and TI-UK’s research projects. Recent projects and publications include ‘Anti-Bribery Due Diligence for Transactions’, ‘Adequate Procedures – Guidance to the UK Bribery Act’ and ‘Corruption in the UK’. He was previously Director of Governance & Sustainable Investment at F&C Asset Management, and CEO (Europe) of the environmental research group Earthwatch Institute. He was a member of the Experts Group drafting the official guidance on the Bribery Act and formerly a member of the Advisory Committee of the UK Export Credits Guarantee Department (ECGD). He has a degree from Oxford University, where he recently held a 3-year Visiting Fellowship, and a PhD from the European University Institute.
