The recently enacted 2010 UK Bribery Act includes a new strict corporate offence of failure to prevent bribery ascribing liability to companies for bribery undertaken by any ‘associated person’, and has a wide-reaching scope and jurisdiction, extending to UK companies engaging in resources-resources-business abroad, as well as foreign companies with a presence in the UK. In light of these developments, the need for companies to actively adhere to a policy of zero –tolerance of bribery has become all the more pressing. To help staff comply with your anti-bribery efforts, TI-UK has designed this training course.

Transparency International UK (TI-UK) and Mango are pleased to announce a new joint training initiative to address the challenge of bribery in the NGO overseas aid sector.
Date & Time: 27th June 2012, 09:00-17:00
Location: St Edmund Hall, Queens Lane, Oxford, OX1 4AR, United Kingdom
Transparency International UK (TI-UK) and Mango are pleased to announce a new joint training initiative to address the challenge of bribery in the NGO overseas aid sector.
Many NGOs are active campaigners against corruption and have been in the forefront of demand for stronger laws that will prevent bribery around the world. NGOs want to lead by example and prevent bribery in their own operations.
The UK Bribery Act came into force on 1 July 2011 and applies to all worldwide activities of any UK based NGO and to British nationals working for NGOs anywhere in the world. The Bribery Act represents both a spur to action and an opportunity for NGOs to review how they prevent bribery.
On the initiative of Mango and Transparency International UK Bond established a working group to develop a set of principles and practical guidance for preventing bribery. The working group proposed that all NGOs should commit to a policy of zero-tolerance of bribery in any form. To help NGOs put that into practice Mango and TI-UK have designed a practical one-day course.
Aimed at NGO leaders, policy-makers and those responsible for implementing a zero-tolerance approach to bribery in their operations.
In the morning, the workshop looks at how to develop a zero-tolerance strategy and approach to bribery, the legal and moral imperatives to do so, and what that means for field operations and supporting functions.
In the afternoon, we look at techniques to safely resist and avoid paying bribes and how to join forces for longer-term action.
The fee for this course is £255. You can download the course outline here

Good practice now demands that enterprises develop comprehensive programmes to counter bribery that are monitored and improved on a continual basis. Moreover enterprises are increasingly expected to communicate to their stakeholders, internally and externally, the measures and efforts they are deploying to counter and detect bribery. The Assurance Framework aims to encourage the use of independent assurance as a means to strengthen corporate anti-bribery programmes and lend greater credibility to the efforts of enterprises to prevent bribery and corruption. The Assurance Framework was developed with enterprises in mind but should also be of help to assurance practitioners by providing criteria that may eventually become generally accepted for use in anti-bribery assurance engagements.
The Assurance Framework is the latest addition to a range of Transparency International tools based on the Business Principles for Countering Bribery and developed to raise the level of corporate anti-bribery practice.
The Framework was developed by Transparency International with the support of the World Economic Forum Partnering Against Corruption Initiative (PACI). The Framework underwent a four-month public consultation and incorporates feedback from this consultation.

Understanding who you do business with has been a priority for companies for many years, and of particular importance since the UK Bribery Act was brought into force in 2011. Bribery and corruption risks posed by working with third parties remain the single largest corruption risk to companies - with bribery through agents, distributors and brokers representing 41% of 427 enforcement actions concluded since the coming into force of the OECD Anti-Bribery Convention in 1999.
On Thursday 30 June, Transparency International UK and PwC invite you to the launch of a new guidance on third party anti-bribery management.
This research by Transparency International UK and Transparency International USA, with the support of PwC, aims to bring fresh perspectives on best practice in this area, including principles, practical examples and case studies.
